Fears over the web's isolating effect are unfounded, writes Crayton Harrison.
THE internet has failed to turn us all into nerds. Despite the fears of some in the early days of the web, we are not retreating to virtual worlds to escape reality, according to a new study.
In fact, we are using the internet and other modern communication tools to keep in touch with a wider assortment of friends, some of whom we see in person more often because we can find them online. In just over a decade, email and other technology have become vital for personal interaction, up there with phone chats and air travel."
